Letter to Bellevue Police Department re Common Area Trespassers Who Create Disturbances

Attached is a copy of a letter the Norwood Village Board of Trustees sent to the Bellevue Police Department (BPD) on May 10, 2010. This letter was prepared as the result of an incident last summer. At that time, there was confusion about whether or not Norwood residents adjacent to the common areas were authorized to request police assistance in dealing with disturbances by trespassers in our common areas.

This letter authorizes residents of Norwood Village to request BPD assistance when trespassers create disturbances, cause property damage, or otherwise behave in a manner that would concern a reasonable person. We suggest that you print a copy of the letter and provide it to any responding officers should it become necessary to request BPD assistance.

Please note that this authorization is limited to trespassers who misbehave.

Trespassers are those who are NOT

We ask that you use restraint and good judgement about this--we need to save our calls for truly serious situations. Please only call BPD if trespassers are causing a significant disturbance, causing property damage, or behaving in a manner that would cause serious concern for a reasonable person.

If someone is technically trespassing on the property but is behaving appropriately, please do NOT call the police.
